KATHMANDU, AUGUST 10

A training programme on Korean cuisine and food hygiene for cooks and field staff working in Nepal's trekking sector began on Monday, as the number of Korean tourists visiting Nepal continues to grow.

Organised by the Korea Tours & Trekking Operators Association of Nepal (KTTOAN), the Korean Culinary & Hygiene Training for Trekking Field Staff will run until August 21. More than 30 students and trekking-sector employees are participating in the programme.

Trainer Rajeshwari Magar Sherpa will provide theoretical and practical training on Korean food preparation, food hygiene, kitchen management and skills required in trekking areas.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Lee Woojin, cultural counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal, expressed confidence that the training would be effective and thanked KTTOAN for its continued cooperation with the Korean Embassy in organising training and other programmes.

KTTOAN President Amar Bahadur Shahi delivered the welcome remarks, while Treasurer Ngawa Ngima Sherpa briefed participants on the training schedule and course content.

The training covers Korean cuisine, food hygiene, kitchen management, clean service, Korean guest care and trekking cook skills, among other areas.

KTTOAN said the programme aims to develop skilled workers capable of providing quality services to Korean tourists in line with their food culture, improve food safety and hygiene standards, and raise the quality of services available in Nepal's mountain and trekking destinations.

KTTOAN Vice-President and Korean food specialist Ang Dorjee Sherpa said the training would help enhance the capacity of trekking cooks and field staff and improve the delivery of quality Korean cuisine.

The association said such initiatives would also contribute to strengthening tourism and cultural ties between Nepal and South Korea while developing skilled human resources for Nepal's tourism industry.
