Transport Office shifted to Hetaunda from Birgunj owing to UDMF protests
BIRGUNJ: The Narayani Zonal Transport Management Office has been transferred from Birgunj to Hetaunda due to the ongoing Madhes agitation, on Sunday.
The Office stated that the move was made in order to ease the vehicle owners, who could not receive services from the Office in the closure for last three months.
Except the issuance of driving licence, other basic services including vehicle registration, renewal and other processes would be made available from the Hetaunda-based office, the Office stated.
Though the preparations to transfer the Office were ongoing for a long time, the sudden transfer of the official papers overnight has created a space for suspicion.
After getting information about the transfer, agitating cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) have issued a statement expressing their dissatisfaction on the issue.
The statement jointly signed by the district level UDMF leaders demands reinstatement of the Office to Birgunj.
The statement claims that this move has revealed conspiracy weaved by the government to ostracise the Madhesi people.
It further reads that if the move is not corrected, the UDMF has warned to intensify their protests against the government.
