Damak, May 11:

Public transport stayed off the roads in Mechi zone today as well at the call of Mechi Bus Entrepreneurs’ Association.

To protest the demand of excessive compensation from the relatives of a man, who was killed in an accident involving a bus affiliated to the association, the association called chakkajam yesterday.

All the short and long route vehicles plying to and from several parts of the country stayed off the road today in support of the protest programme, the association said.

The association’s strike call was made after the relatives of Yuddharaj Rai, 24, of Tandi in Morang, who was crushed under a bus affiliated to the association in Urlabari on Wednesday, demanded Rs 1.5 million as compensation.

The association said it could not afford to pay more than Rs 95,000 to the victim’s family.
