KATHMANDU, JULY 22

Transport entrepreneurs launched protest today, demanding the adjustment of transport fares. The entrepreneurs staged protest in different parts along the Ring Road in Kathmandu valley as a part of their protest programme.

They have further demanded COVID-19 vaccines for drivers and helpers of long and short route vehicles.

They appealed to the federal government to address their genuine demands.

Recently, the Department of Transport Management had allowed transport entrepreneurs to hike bus fare for inter-province routes by 28 per cent.

Similarly, cargo carriers serving routes in the Tarai and hills were permitted to hike transport fares by 26 and 20 per cent, respectively.

The protesters have demanded that the bus fare be adjusted as per the market and price hike of petroleum products and vehicle spare parts. They have also stated that it was adjusted nine years ago and it was high time that the fares were adjusted again.
