Triyuga faces acute water shortage

Locals of Triyuga Municipal area have been facing acute shortage of drinking water for a week after the water supply was shut off for cleaning in Udayapur.

Triyuga Drinking Water and Sanitation Office had closed the water supply to clean the pipelines as they were clogged with sand and other materials. The municipality has been facing water crisis as there was no other water resource in the area. “We have been buying water for a week now,” Udaya Basnet, a local, said. The government offices, district hospital, prison house have also been facing the same issue for the past one week. It is said that hospitals and prison house have been using expensive mineral water.

Statistics Officer at District Health Office, Udayapur, Duniya Lal Yadav said that the number of patients have increased to receive the health service. “But the hospital has not been able to provide drinking water to the patients,” Yadav added. Yadav said that the water crisis is making the hospital unpopular.

Similarly, Sita Ram Karki, a jailer, said that he had managed drinking water for the prisoners by purchasing water out of his pocket as there was no government budget for it.

Meanwhile, Triyuga Small Urban Office Chairman, Shankar Basnet, said the water crisis in the municipal areas will be solved soon. Basnet informed that the machine to clean the water way would arrive soon and the water would be supplied within some days.
