Chitwan, October 4

A motorbike rider died on the spot and another was injured after a truck hit the motorcycle he was riding along the East-west Highway at Khairahani Municipality of Chitwan on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as the bike rider Sona Mahato, 45, of the municipality.

Police said that the truck heading towards Narayangadh from the east hit the bike at Chaubiskothi Chowk of the municipality. The pillion rider Mahato’s wife Jeny was injured in the accident, said police.

Police said that Jeny is receiving treatment in Bharatpur-based Alive Hospital and Trauma Centre.

Meanwhile, irate locals set fire to the truck immediately after the accident. The front part of the truck has been damaged.

Police have taken the truck driver under control and further investigation is under way.
