TU announces PCL admissions

LALITPUR: Tribhuvan University has announced admissions in the Proficiency Certificate Level.

Organising a press conference today, Prof Dr Madhav Prasad Sharma, Vice Chancellor of TU, said the university had decided to announce the admissions for this year only on the special request of Ministry of Education.

"Despite the TU academic council decision of phasing out PCL effective from this year for the sake of compatibility with international system, we have decided to run the level owing to the protest of students and pressures from other quarters, including the ministry," he clarified. "We have taken this as the interference of the state in an autonomous institution."

Prof Dr Govinda Prasad Acharya, dean, Central Department of Management and secretary of the Academic Council, said, "We repeatedly asked the government to develop infrastructure to incorporate SLC graduates in higher secondary level but to no avail," he said.

Prof Dr Surya Lal Amatya, rector, TU, said the university was going to revise its fee structure. "We have started discussion with student unions regarding the plan," he added.

The AC decided to phase out the level on May 20. A ministerial level decision of August 14 had urged the TU to announce fresh PCL intake.
