Twelve killed in road accidents

SINDHUPALCHWOK: At least nine persons were killed and 25 injured when

a bus met with an accident

at Thokarpa-2 in Ratuwapati last night.

The Bus heading towards Bekhsimle in Kabhre from Chehere in Sindhupalchowk had suddenly moved backward and fallen off the road when the driver was out of his seat. The driver had come out of his seat to settle a dispute with local students.

According to Chiranjeebi Dahal, Police Inspector, District Police Office Sindhupalchowk, the deceased have been identified as, Krishna Bahadur Bhujel, Maila Lama, Mitra Bahadur Tamang, Imansingh Tamang, Amar Bahadur Tamang, Lal Bahadur Tamang, Buddha Tamang of Bekhsimle VDC and Narayan Pahari and Motilal Pahari.

Among the injured, four are undergoing treatment at B&B Hospital in Lalitpur while others are undergoing treatment at Scheer Memorial Hospital in Banepa.

Most of the passengers were returning home after getting electricity meter box from Nepal Electricity Authority Office, Lamosangu. The police and locals had rescued the injured.

After receiving the information about the accident, assistant CDO Gobinda Sapkota, DSP Ajaya Bhattarai and Dr Rajendra Panta from the district headquarters visited the spot. According to Dr Panta, an autopsy of the deceased was performed in the accident area.

The police have detained Milan Lama and Sanokaji Baduwal, the student duo, who had quarrelled with the driver. Both of them are attending the ongoing SLC examination.

Meanwhile, two persons were killed in a road accident at Charkoshe Jhadi along Dharan-Itahari road section in Sunsari district. According to Rewat Adhikari, Sub-inspector, Area Police Office Dharan, Shyam Kumar Khadka of Pathari-3, Morang and Kiran Poudel of Dharan-10 died when the motorbike they were riding collided with a bus head on. He also informed that five persons were killed in different road accidents in one week’s period at the same place. The police has arrested bus driver Arun Bahadur Gurung along with the bus.

In another incident at Belahara-6 in Dhankuta last night, a person was killed in a tractor mishap.

Serious injured Pemba Chhiring Sherpa of Terhathum, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in Dhankuta Hospital, police said.
