Twin murder accused threaten to bomb district police office

Itahari, May 22:

The gangsters involved in the murder of trader Kailash Chandra Agrawal and his wife Kanta Devi have threatened to blow up the District Police Office Sunsari if the arrest of its members continues.

Calling from India, the gangsters threatened to kill two inspectors and a sub-inspector. “The gangsters called me up from India and threatened to kill me,” a police official said.

The Agrawal couple was murdered on March 18. Owing to pressure from entrepreneurs, a seven-member team headed by inspector at the Koshi zonal police office Teku Limbu was constituted. SSP at the Crime Investigation Division of the Police Headquarters Dipak Ranjit was given the task of investigating the case.

A few days ago, SSP Ranjit had said most of the criminals have been arrested. With this revelation, the gangsters started calling the Sunsari DPO and Itahari Area Police Office. According to a head constable at the Itahari APO, the gangsters have been threatening to effect the transfer of police officials involved in the investigation to remote parts of the country if the investigation were not halted.

Inspector Bishwomani Pokh-arel is on a 20-day home leave after entrepreneurs alleged that criminals had bought him.

The gangsters have said that criminals arrested recently are associated with it. The police had arrested military commander of the Madhesi Liberation Tigers Chandra Shekhar and two others two days ago. However, Sunsari SP Yadav Raj Khanal said he was not aware of the warnings.
