KATHMANDU, MAY 17
Two personnel from the Armed Police Force (APF), Nepal successfully summited Mount Everest on Sunday, marking a significant achievement for the force.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Nim Dikki Sherpa reached the summit at 11:55 am, while Assistant Head Constable Anita Karki scaled the peak earlier at 10:20 am, according to the APF.
With the ascent, Sherpa and Karki have become the third and fourth APF personnel to summit the world's highest peak. The force said the expedition also marks the first successful summit by a women's team from APF.
Sherpa hails from Sandakpur in Ilam, while Karki, a national fencing athlete and trained in mountaineering rescue, is from Gokulganga Rural Municipality in Ramechhap.
Prior to Everest, both climbers had summited other peaks, including Chulu Far East and Lobuche.
The APF described the achievement as historic, expressing confidence that it would encourage greater participation and leadership of women within the organisation.
