Two arrested with eight automatic weapons

JUMLA: Two persons were arrested in possession of various weapons, on Sunday.

The arrestees have been identified as Vedan Raj Thapa and his brother, Kamal Raj Thapa, of Gajryangkot-8, informed DSP Guru Bishnu Kafle of the Jumla District Police Office.

Vedan Raj was arrested from Kathmandu based on a tip-off while Kamal Raj was arrested from Nepalgunj.

Police confiscated weapons including two BN 6465-2967 sub-automatic SLR, Indian Army Code no. 1000 C Plus LST 1.65 MN automatic pistol, an automatic pistol, a five-bullet revolver, a six-bullet revolver, two pistols, seven detonators and bullets.

In an extensive search for 21 statues stolen from the Chandannath Baba's Temple on November 26, police came across the automatic weapons from various locations of the district.

The weapons could have been stolen during the armed insurgency, police added.

They were made public in the district on Monday.
