Police in Rautahat have arrested two people on charges of splashing black ink on Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ganesh Paudel in an incident authorities described as degrading and inhumane.
According to the District Police Office, the incident occurred on the night of July 23 near a temple in Parsa, Ward 7 of Gadhimai Municipality, where a group of individuals allegedly scattered pamphlets bearing slogans such as "Long Live the Madhesh Liberation Campaign" before throwing black ink at Paudel, the federal lawmaker elected from Rautahat Constituency-4.
Police said investigation teams from the District Police Office and the Area Police Office, Garuda, launched a search immediately after the incident and identified two suspects within a week.
The arrested are 20-year-old Shakhe Ibran and 19-year-old Irfan Ansari, both residents of Gadhimai Municipality, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Basanta Gautam, the district police spokesperson.
The Rautahat District Court has granted police a three-day remand to investigate the pair on charges related to degrading and inhumane treatment. Police said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals allegedly involved in the incident.
