Two dead, five injured in Bajura jeep plunge

KATHMANDU: Two persons were killed and five others injured after the jeep they were travelling in met with an accident in Badimaali Municipality-8 along the Sanphe-Martadi road section of Bajura district on Monday night, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Bal Bahadur Budha (40) of Odanchuli Rural Municipality-3 in Humla district and Kali Bahadur Raut (45) of Khatyad Rural Municipality-8 in Mugu district.

According to police, the incident occurred when the Jeep (Se 1 Ja 940) en route from Kolti to Martadi fell some 50 metres below the road near the District Health Office at 7:45 pm yesterday, killing Budha on the spot and injuring six others.

The six injured were rushed to the local health facilities where Raut breathed his last during the course of treatment. While Janak Bahadur Shahi of Budhinanda Municipality-9, Gorakh Bahadur Rokaya of Gaumul Rural Municipality-6, Khadak Rokaya of Odanchuli Rural Municipality-3 in Humla are undergoing treatment there, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hari Bahadur Oli at the District Police Office, Bajura.

Meanwhile, the other two who were critically injured — Singh Bahadur Shahi of Swamikartik Rural Municipality-5, and Karna Bahadur Rokaya of Srinagar Rural Municipality in Humla — were later referred to the Achham-based health facility for further treatment, said DSP Oli.

The search is on for the jeep driver who fled the incident site, said DSP Oli.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
