Biratnagar, June 15

CPN-Maoist Centre, Morang has fielded two former Maoist combatants for the top posts of two local levels in the district.

While Lata Neupane has been selected as the mayoral candidate for Sundar Haraicha Municipality, Tara Ojha Rajbanshi has been chosen for the post of chair in Kanepokhari Rural Municipality, from the party.

Neupane, who had joined the Maoist insurgency while she was still a student 18 years ago, had served as a company in-charge of the rebel army. Tara, who joined the insurgency, 16 years ago, had opted for voluntary retirement during the peace process.

Commenting on her decision to contest the elections, Laxmi said she wanted to wipe out corruption from all sectors of the society and ensure justice at the grassroots level. Tara, who was born to a Brahmin family but who married outside her caste, described her decision to contest the polls as a continuity of her struggle for the betterment of society.
