Two held for rape attempt and money extortion in Jhapa

BANIYANI: Police on Saturday made public two youth arrested on the charge of attempt to rape and extortion of money by making an obscene video of the victim.

The arrestees have been identified asĀ  Bijaya Bahadur Magar (17) and Nabin Dangi (17), both residents of Saalbaadi in Arjundhara Municipality-9 of Jhapa district, according to the Anarmari-based Area Police Office in the district.

According to police, the 35-year-old victim was en route to Ilam and was the pillion rider on a motorcycle that her cousin was riding when Magar and Dangi, along with one other friend, allegedly stopped them on knife-point inside Giribandhu Tea Estate in Arjundhara Municipality-11 on Thursday.

The group thrashed the woman and her cousin and forced them for sexually explicit activities while recording a video of the same, informed police.

The group later allegedly attempted to extort money from the victim and threatened to upload the video on social media if they failed to meet their demand.

When the victims asserted that they lacked the demanded money and only had Rs 10,000 cash, the cousin was sent to fetch rest of the money from the bank with one assailant as an escort, while two other took the woman to a desolate place and allegedly attempted to rape her, added police.

However, the cousin managed to trick the assailant and reported the incident to the Birtamod-based Area Police Office.

Police immediately arrested the two assailants and rescued the victim. However, one other culprit is on the run and search is going for him, informed police.

According to police, they have recovered the video for investigation.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is under way.
