Two hurt in row over textbooks

Jhapa, June 8:

Tension prevailed in Birtamod of Jhapa district today after a clash between students and a bookstore owner in Bhadrapur Road market of Birtamod.

After two students were injured in the clash and several others were hit by stones, hordes of them blocked the Birtamod-Sanischarey road and forced Birtamod shut down.

The clash erupted between the owner of Unis Bookstore Raj Kumar Shrestha and the 25-strong group of Grade IX and X students of Devi Secondary School, who had gone there to buy textbooks, after Shrestha told them there was no textbook in his bookstore. Students Sudhir Mohammed and Jan Kumar Lawati were injured in the fracas while their companions were hit by stones.
