Two Indians held with huge cache of controlled pharmaceutical drugs

BIRGUNG: Police said two Indian nationals have been arrested for their alleged involvement in smuggling controlled pharmaceutical drugs to Nepal from India in Birgunj on Saturday.

A joint security team from Parsa District Police Office and Armed Police Force intercepted a Scorpio jeep with registration number (BR 05 H 5843) at Birgung-16 during a routine security check yesterday and recovered a huge cache of drugs hidden inside the vehicle.

Subsequently, police arrested driver Nirajan Kumar and Rajan Gupta, both hailing from Motihari district in Bihar State.

Police said illegal pharmaceutical drugs -- Nurofen, Diazepam and Phenergan 500 ampoules each were seized from their possession.

Meanwhile, police have impounded the vehicle and rounded up the suspects, Kumar and Gupta for further investigation.

Lately, drug smugglers have been using Indian vehicles to pass contraband from India to Nepal.
