TRISHULI, AUGUST 15
Two pilgrims were killed and three others injured after a bus carrying devotees to Duppeshwar Mahadev Temple rolled down a hillside on the Tokha-Chhahare road in Nuwakot on Saturday.
The accident occurred at Thanabhanjyang in Shivapuri Rural Municipality-7 when the bus, which had been parked by the roadside, suddenly moved on its own while the driver and passengers had stopped for refreshments, police said.
The bus (Ba Pra 08-001 Kha 0052) hit a parked electric van (Ba Pra 03-001 Ja 1176) before both vehicles plunged about 50 metres off the road.
Police identified the deceased as 54-year-old Krishnamaya Prajapati (Dangol) of Banepa Municipality-8, Kavre, and 65-year-old Udayamaya Khatri of Khandadevi Rural Municipality-2, Ramechhap. Both died shortly after being taken to a hospital in Kathmandu.
The injured, Sujata Pokharel, 25, of Lalbandi Municipality-9, Sarlahi; Sharmila Shrestha, 42, of Banepa-10, Kavre; and Gyanu Shrestha, 60, of Melung Rural Municipality-6, Dolakha, were also taken to Kathmandu for treatment.
Police have taken bus driver Sitaram Acharya, from Panchkhal Municipality-7, Kavre, into custody for investigation and necessary legal action.
