Typhoid cases on rise

Baglung, August 8:

The number of typhoid patients is on the rise in Baglung district. Out of 150 patients visiting the out-patients department of Dhaulagiri Zonal Hospital, 20 are typhoid patients, Dr Sagar Raj Bhandair of the hospital said.

“Many people are suffering from typhoid because of contaminated water,” Dr Bhandari said. He said the 30-bed hospital was unable to cater to increasing number of typhoid patients.

Though there is a quota for five medial doctors at the hospital, only two doctors are presently working there. Since three doctors are receiving training in Kathmandu, two doctors are finding it difficult to cope with the increasing number of patients.

Most of the typhoid patients are from Tityang, Sigana, Tadgram, and from within the municipality, the hospital said.
