Palungtar airport to be distribution base

POKHARA: Authorities have decided to set up a base at Palungtar airport in Gorkha for relief distribution in the district. The decision was taken by a meeting of Western Regional Natural Disaster Rescue Committee held in Pokhara today. The meeting admitted weaknesses in relief management and decided that relief materials stocked up at Pokhara and Gorkha airports will now be collected at Palungtar airport of Gorkha and distributed from there. The meeting was held under the coordination of western regional administrator Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya. It has been learnt that Indian Army and Nepali Army will distribute relief in Gorkha by using Palungtar as a base from tomorrow. Meanwhile, Officer Ramji Prasad Koirala at the regional administrative office has called on different organisations to help provide relief to quake victims of Gorkha by coordinating with the administration and their agencies.

NC targets Rs 10m

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress on Friday said that it was raising fund from party workers and well-wishers with the aim of providing at least R. 10 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund for earthquake victims. Organising a press meet at NC parliamentary party office in Singhdurbar, NC Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel today said that the party mobilised eight cluster groups of the party workers for rescue and relief of earthquake victims. Paudel said that the party would come up with a concrete vision for developing well managed residential areas and construct structures to avoid casualties from such quakes.

One killed, two hurt

RAJBIRAJ: One person died on the spot and two others were injured in separate road accidents in Saptari district. Area Police Office, Kadarbona said that Jangilal Yadav, 80, of the VDC died after a tractor hit him at Tikuliya VDC on Thursday night.The four-wheeler hit Yadav while he was answering nature’s call at night, said police. The driver is at large. Likewise, a couple was injured after a car hit the motorcycle they were riding in Khojpur, Saptari on Friday morning. The car, which was heading east, hit the bike coming from the opposite direction. The injured have been identified as bike rider Amar Das and his wife Sona Devi of Odraha VDC, Dhanusha. Police have taken the car and its driver under control.
