UCPN-M urges BRB to rethink quitting party
Kathmandu, September 27
The Central Committee of Unified CPN-Maoist deplored former prime minister Baburam Bhattarai’s decision to quit the party and urged him to continue providing leadership role to the party.
The UCPN-M CC termed Bhattarai’s decision to quit the party as inappropriate, irrelevant and wrong, according to a press release issued by the party.
The party said Bhattarai’s decision to quit the party was neither in his interest nor in the interest of the party or the country.
The UCPN-M also urged the government and the agitating Madhesi and Tharu forces to resolve constitutional issues through dialogue without resorting to extreme measures. It also decided to take the initiative to resolve the issues of Madhesis, Tharus and indigenous nationalities through dialogue.
The party urged the government not to use unnecessary force against protesters. It also asked the protesting forces not to resort to blockade. The UCPN-M expressed condolences to the families who lost their loved ones during the protests.
The party said it had registered its note of dissent on the constitution and was serious about getting people’s genuine issues addressed through dialogue. The party said India’s reaction after the promulgation of the new constitution was unexpected.
It also drew the attention of the Government of India toward the problem of supplies caused by disruption at the border points. The party also urged the government to seek a diplomatic solution with India.
