Ward office launches nutrition programme for new mothers

Gaighat, August 7

Office of Ward No 8 in Katari Municipality, Udayapur, has launched a nutrition programme for new mothers. As per the programme, every new mother in the ward will get a chicken and one litre ghee.

Ward Chair Kamal Kumar Shrestha launched the programme by handing over a chicken and ghee to a new mother in the ward.

The ward office has also taken the initiative of conducting door to door health check-up service for newborns and new mothers. The ward office started the programme from the last week of July. “We have already distributed nutritious food items to more than 10 mothers,” Shrestha said. The ward chair himself reached the houses of new mothers to distribute chicken and ghee.

The ward had allocated Rs 50,000 for the nutrition programme last fiscal. He said budget for the programme would be increased in the current fiscal. Nanda Kumari Magar, who delivered a baby three days ago, said that she was delighted after she received ghee and chicken. “I had never thought the ward would do this much for us,” Magar said.

Locals have appreciated ward office’s initiative. “The programme will ensure that new mothers get the required nutrition in the post-delivery period,” said social worker Kajiman Tamang.
