UDMF assesses progress on talks

KATHMANDU: The United Democratic Madheshi Front (UDMF) on Thursday assessed the talks held so far with the major three political parties.

At a meeting held at the Central Office of Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party in Kathmandu on Thursday, the disgruntled Madhesi leaders assessed the talks with the major three parties held in a bid to address their demands, according to Jitendra Sonal, TMDP General Secretary.

The UDMF has been waging agitation in various districts in the southern plains protesting the newly promulgated Constitution, stating that it did not reflect their interest.

They have been demanding review on demarcation of federal boundaries, proportional and inclusive representation in the Parliament and public offices and determination of electoral constituencies on the basis of population among others.

Today's meeting also dwelt on how to lead the ongoing talks with the major political parties and government to a logical conclusion, added General Secretary Sonal.

The next meeting of the Front is scheduled for tomorrow.

The meeting was attended by Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav, TMDP Chairman Mahantha Thakur, Terai Madhes Sadbhawana Party Chairman Mahendra Raya and Sadbhawana Party Co-Chairman Laxman Lal Karna among others.
