Nepali Congress Bara office attacked, BP's statue dismantled
BARA: The cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front barged into the premises of Nepali Congress party office at Kalaiya-6 here in the district and dismantled the statue of late BP Koirala Kalaiya-6. They hurled petrol bombs at the BP Memorial Building and attempted to set it on fire.
The agitating UDMF had summoned its supporters from the rural areas to the district headquarters today. Carrying domestic weapons and bamboo sticks, a large number of people gathered at the Trichandra Higher Secondary School.
A rally that began from the school premises passed through the major thoroughfares of Kalaiya before converging into a corner meet at Bharat Chok.
A group from the same rally resorted to vandalism at and arson of the Nepali Congress party office.
The protesters tried to vandalise the office of CPN-UML at Kalaiya-5 also. But police took action against them.
Security personnel lobbed several tear gas shells and fired shots in air to disperse the assaulters. Details about the police action are yet to be known.
