UDMF cadres torch medicine-laden truck in Birgunj
BIRGUNJ: Cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) torched a medicine-laden truck, hours after announcement of opening the way for medicine-laden vehicles, in Birgunj of Parsa on Thursday night.
According to District Police Office, Parsa, the fire in the medicine-laden truck (Na 2 Kha 8292) destroyed the medicines worth Rs 2 million.
The cadres torched the truck that security personnel had planned to escort towards Nabin Medical Hall of Janakpur. The medicines were loaded from the depot located nearby Om Ashram.
Earlier, on Thursday, the meeting of UDMF in Kathmandu had decided about opening the way for medicine-laden vehicles. The Front, however, had specified that the drugs could be imported via Biratnagar customs point.
The UDMF cadres are demonstrating at Maisthan Chok, Murli Chok, Buspark and Ghantaghar Chok among other place of the city by burning tyres from early Friday morning.
The demonstrators also damaged the window of Nepal Investment Bank as well as vandalised the parked minitruck (Na 2 Kha 6214) and a motorcycle in Aadarsanagar of the city.
