UDMF to continue protests, but to let medicines enter via Biratnagar point

KATHMANDU: The agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) on Thursday decided to continue their protest programmes including the blockade at Indo-Nepal border points.

The Front, however, said it would let medicines and medical equipment enter the nation via Biratnagar customs point, "considering humanity."

Likewise, the protesting parties would not obstruct operating classes at Tarai-based academic institutions in the morning shift.

A meeting of the UDMF held at the Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal parliamentary party office in Sindhadurbar made the decisions today.

The UDMF had called the meeting to review its agitation programmes after talks with the ruling parties, earlier hyped as decisive, failed to make any progress on Wednesday.

The Madhesi parties also commented that the government as well as three major parties - Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN-Maoist - were not serious toward their demands and resolution of differences through dialogues.

The UDMF’s blockade of border entry points has led to severe crunch of essential commodities, including fuel and cooking gas, across the country.
