UDMF stages protest in Saptari to foil UML's campaign

RAJBIRAJ: The United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) has been staging protests at various parts of Rajbiraj in Saptari district today in a bid to foil the CPN-UML's Mechi-Mahakali campaign.

The cadres of Madhesi parties have gathered at the Gajendra Narayan Singh Industrial Estate, where the UML is scheduled to hold a mass meeting as a part of the Mechi-Mahakali campaign. They have carried torches and sticks

Major thoroughfares and junctions, including Neta Chok, Gajendra Chok, Bhardaha, Rupani, Shambhunath, Kanchanpur Road, are also abuzz with the UDMF's protest.

The UDMF has imposed a general strike in Madhes region, including in Saptari, to obstruct the CPN-UML's programme. This has affected the vehicular movement in the district.

Meanwhile, police arrested at least five UDMF cadres from Rajbiraj on charge of pelting stones at public vehicles.

Large number of security personnel have been deployed to prevent violence between the cadres of CPN-UML and protesting UDMF.

CPN-UML leaders and members are scheduled to arrive in Saptari at around 1 pm for the programme.
