UDMF to "walk away" from talks if no "concrete result" on Sunday

JANAKPURDHAM: Leaders of agitating Unified Democratic Madhesi Front have warned of walking away from the dialogue if the "decisive talks" with the government, scheduled for Sunday, failed to produce concrete results.

Briefly talking to journalists before the UDMF meeting here, senior Madhesi leaders have accused the government of dillydallying in the name of talks.

Mahantha Thakur, Chairman of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, said, "We do not want to sit in talks which do not produce results."

He further accused government of creating illusions by protracting talks.

According to Upendra Yadav, Chairman of Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal, they did not find the government's intents for talks trustworthy.

If the government does not appear fully prepared for decisive talks on Sunday, there will not be any meaning of talks, he said.

He further reiterated that the government was not serious about the talks. "However, we are prepared to hold meaningful talks," the leader said, "And, our agitation will continue."

Likewise, Mahendra Ray Yadav, Chairman of Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party, the ongoing protest might be changed keeping in mind the upcoming Dipawali and Chhat festivals.

Yadav warned the government to be serious about the talks as the Madhesi people have been pressuring Madhsi leaders not to stop the agitation until the demands are met.

The government and the Madhesi Front are scheduled to hold talks at around 1 pm in Kathmandu tomorrow.
