The third Book Review Award Ceremony was organised at Sundi Secondary School, Rupandehi, on Thursday.
According to Um Hong Gil Human Foundation, the ceremony was attended by Captain Um Hong Gil, Park Dong Soon, Aram Hubis, Lee Sang Ho and Park MunSikl from Korea while Dhruba Narayan Chaudhary, Chairman, Narbada Devi Upadhaya, Vice-Chairman and Krishna Prashad Timilsina, Chief Administrative Officer of Mayadevi Rural Municipality along with students, teachers and parents were present on the occasion.
Captain Um Hong Gil distributed eight buffalos (under livelihood support scheme) worth NRs 460,000 to the winners who secured first and second position from each group and NRs 88,000 cash prize with certificates to 20 other participants.
The contest was classified into 4 levels - Lower Basic Level (1-3), Medium Basic Level (4-6), Higher Basic Level (7-8), and Secondary Level (9-10).
As per a statement issued by the organisation, students had easy access to participate in the contest. From each level, two students were awarded with Livelihood Support (1 Buffalo to each) and five students awarded with cash prize which were categorised under the altitude of highest mountains - Mt Everest, Mt Makalu, Mt Dhaulagiri and Mt Annapurna.
The school management had made an announcement regarding the contest on November 13 following which the students started collecting the books from library for two weeks. The contest was organized on December 22 where altogether 900 students from Grade 1- 10 had participated. The performance of students was evaluated by the evaluation committee on the same day, 28 students were awarded after which.
With the financial support of Um Hong Gil Human Foundation, Sundi Secondary School has been organizing the Book Review Contest twice a year, and has successfully implemented the first Book Review Contest in 2019.
Unfortunately, due to COVID 19 pandemic the contest was halted for two years. The school resumed the contest from November 2021. "This is the third edition of contest that took place in 2022," Captain Um Hong Gill said.
Similarly, environment-friendly lead pencils were handed over to 940 students of Sundi Secondary School. The name of each recipient student is written on the wooden lead pencil, a memento. Lead pencils will be distributed to 19 UHGHF supported community schools across the nation, the statement revealed.
The lead pencils are designed by Taejun and sponsored by Jong Dong-Mun. "UHGH believes that eco-friendly pencil distribution will improve environmental literacy among the schools and will inspire us to take care of our environment and mother earth, the organisers said.
UHGHF had, in the past, supported Sundi Secondary School with earthquake resistant RCC building (11 classrooms), gender friendly toilet, sufficient furniture and renovation of existing three buildings.
It has also supported the school with an ICT lab, Library with more than 7500 books and boundary wall construction etc. "This is the 10th human school of UHGHF. Currently, school runs classes from ECD to Grade 11 with 1005 students. It is securing the admirable results in a government board exams and regional competitions as well," the statement added.
