UML ‘brokered’ Maoists’ tie-up with parties

Narayangarh, November 23:

A leader of the CPN-UML has said that the King will face the danger of losing the throne as long as the CPN-UML exists.

Addressing the 16th annual anniversary of Nawayug, a monthly magazine, here today, Pradip Nepal, the chief of the Publicity Department of the party, said that the agreement between the seven parties and the Maoists became possible due to the efforts made by the CPN-UML. “The agreement is the result of talks held in Lucknow two years ago and not the result of hasty visits to New Delhi.”

Democracy means a republic, Nepal said, adding that the CPN-UML poses a danger to the institution of monarchy because it is a pro-republican party.

He said an arduous struggle will have to be launched to overthrow monarchy.

He stated that all the communist parties will join the CPN-UML once the Maoists join the political mainstream.

To those criticising the parties for holding talks with the Maoists in India, Nepal asked: “Will you let us hold talks with the Maoists in your houses?. “How can we hold talks here when we are labelled as terrorists for holding talks with the Maoists?”
