UML for consensus govt: Bhattarai
Phidim, June 4
CPN-UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai today accused the ruling coalition partners and the forces backing the coalition government of picking the new prime minister by passing the legitimate procedure.
Speaking at a function organised by Press Chautari Panchthar in Phidim today, Bhattarai said the government had to amend the letter sent by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari after reading it at the parliament and proceed with the selection of the new prime minister.
“Actually, the ruling coalition is making haste to form the new government ignoring the legitimate procedure,” he said.
He said his party would extend crucial support for the formation of the new government by giving up the obstruction of House proceedings only if the new government is formed on the basis of consensus.
Bhattarai said the ruling coalition was not interested in holding elections. “This is the reason why the government has been postponing the date of the second phase of civic polls,” he argued.
“If the date for the elections is postponed under any pretext, it will not be acceptable to us,” said Bhattarai. He claimed that his party would emerge victorious in majority of places in the second phase of elections as well.
