UML endorses Oli’s political document
Kathmandu, July 28
The CPN-UML central committee today decided to focus on drafting the new constitution by July 17.
The meeting that began at the party headquarters on Sunday concluded today by endorsing the 17-point political document of Chairman K P Sharma Oli with some revisions.
According to Secretary Pradip Gyawali, the meeting also endorsed the yearly financial report presented by Finance Department Chief of the party Bishnu Rimal.
In his document, Oli reiterated the party’s commitment to federalism and urged everyone not to doubt.
Oli has stated that the party’s commitment for directly elected prime minister was further consolidated by the people’s overwhelming support and the party would incorporate that important suggestions in the constitution.
However, leaders have been saying that the party won’t stick to it if that delays the promulgation of the new constitution.
According to Baija Nath Chaudhary, leaders Tanka Karki, Mohafuj Alam, Prakash Jwala and Bidhya Bhandari expressed their views before Oli concluded.
Addressing the meeting Vice-chair Bidhya Bhandari expressed serious concern about the activities of CPDCC chairman Baburam Bhattarai, who has been inciting extremist leaders of different parties, including NC and UML. She said his activities were focused on derailing the 16-point agreement and that should be taken seriously.
Central member Mohafuj Alam demanded that a Muslim Commission should be formed while Tanka Karki discussed the decision process of the Chinese Communist Party.
Oli said people he had been accused of wanting to become the prime minister soon, and the party must quash this allegation.
