UML to launch tourism drive

CPN-UML is all set to run a tourism promotion campaign in Mechi zone in the east.

UML Mechi Zone Coordination Committee will organise the campaign titled Mechi Tourism Promotion Campaign, according to which a team of the party will visit tourism sites and study their condition.

The campaign will be inaugurated by UML Chairperson and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at a programme from Sukhani, a site where a number of revolutionary figures attained martyrdom in the Panchayat era.

“The touring team will comprise 150 persons that includes the party’s Mechi Zone Coordination Committee representatives and district-wise party representatives and chairs,” said UML Panchthar district Chairperson Raj Kumar Bhandari at a press conference in Phidim today.

The conference was organised to brief about the campaign that is slated to begin from tomorrow. After PM Oli sees the visiting team off following the inauguration of the campaign from Sukhani at 9:00am, the team will visit the tourism sites of Jhapa by Friday and visit places of Ilam for two days from Saturday.

The team will visit the remaining districts of the zone, including Taplejung and then Panchthar from Monday.

Senior party leaders Jhalanath Khanal, Subaschandra Nembang and Ishwor Pokharel will welcome and see the team off in Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung respectively.

According to UML central member Dambarsingh Sambahamfe, the expenditure for the visit will be borne from the internal sources of the party and supporters and well-wishers.

However, it is said that Mechi Hilly Tourism Promotion Committee, a government mechanism, has lent a technical hand to the campaign.
