KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 26
A vehicle carrying CPN (UML) leader Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai was vandalized in the district headquarters of Taplejung on Sunday afternoon.
Identity advocates threw stones at Bhattarai's vehicle near Tokme bazaar in Phungling as he was returning after participating in a reception and greetings exchange program organized by the UML Taplejung district committee.
The District Police Office reported that the front glass of the vehicle was smashed during the attack. Police stated that youths advocating identity-based politics had thrown stones at the vehicle in which leader Bhattarai was traveling.
Earlier in the morning, agitating youths had staged a demonstration in front of Bhattarai's residence in Phungling, accusing him of being intolerant of the identity in the naming of Province 1.
During the demonstration, clashes occurred between UML cadres and the protesters.
