All six ministers from the CPN-UML in the Bagmati Province government resigned collectively on Wednesday, formally ending their party's participation in the provincial administration.
The ministers had planned to hand over their resignation letters directly to Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya. However, they were unable to meet him and subsequently submitted their resignations at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers.
According to sources, the UML ministers proceeded with filing their resignation letters at the office after failing to secure a meeting with the chief minister. The Chief Minister's Secretariat said Baniya had travelled to Chitwan for a pre-scheduled programme and returned late.
Those resigning include Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, Forests and Environment Madhusudan Poudel, Minister for Industry, Tourism, Labour and Transport Bindu Shrestha, and Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Dr Dinesh Chandra Devkota. Ministers without portfolio Kiran Thapa Magar, Jayaram Shrestha and Bharat Bahadur KC also tendered their resignations.
The ministers had joined the Bagmati Province government formed under Article 168(2) of the Constitution on August 5, 2025. In their resignation letters, they thanked the chief minister, provincial assembly members, civil servants, media personnel and the people of the province for their cooperation during their tenure.
Before submitting their resignations, the UML ministers held a press conference where they presented a summary of the achievements and activities carried out during their time in office.
