UML offices under lock and key of its wings

The sister organisations of the UML today locked out the district party offices to protest the hike in fuel prices. Reports from Tanahun said the ANNFSU students locked the UML district secretary Pratap Lal Shrestha in his office for some 10 minutes and later took him out and locked out the office. The student union has warned of taking to the streets if the price hike is not immediately withdrawn.

A statement issued by the ANNFSU Tanahun district chairman Sri Ram Achuk has accused the government of torturing the public by frequent price hike in essentials. In Rupandehi, ANNFSU today locked out all the six UML district offices and the zonal office to protest the price hike. Yam Lal Acharya, the chairman of ANNFSU-Lumbini released a statement demanding action against Minister for Commerce, Industry and Supply Ishwor Pokharel. The ANNFSU along with Nepal Students’ Union enforced Butwal bazaar bandh from 1 pm till the evening.

Prakash Rana, an NSU leader said the bandh was organised to protest RNA’s misconduct against GP Koirala on Wednesday. The police arrested some students who were forcing the businessmen to close the bazaar. The police said nothing had been decided yet about their release.

In Narayangadh, another pro-UML organisation Democratic National Youth Organisation district committee, Chitwan locked out UML office protesting the recent fuel price hike.

DNYO district chairman Ramji Sapkota issued a statement today said saying the lock out was organised to exert pressure on the party to quit the government if it could not serve the people. The DNYO also warned the UML that the lock out would continue until the party quit the government.
