UML to discuss internal conflict at central committee meeting

KATHMANDU, July 7

The standing committee meeting of CPN-UML today decided to call the central committee meeting from July 26 to discuss the internal conflict in the party.

Senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, who leads the party’s opposition faction, did not attend today’s meeting because he was in Rautahat while Pushpa Kandel was on a visit to China.

According to office Secretary Krishna Gopal Shrestha, the party decided to call central committee meeting on July 26 after the politburo meeting of July 25.

“The next standing committee meeting will be held on July 11 to discuss the internal conflict,” he said.

Shrestha further said the party has decided to develop a system for managing internal conflict for which a draft regulation has been distributed to all standing committee members. This will be discussed at the next standing committee meeting.

Sources claimed that the Nepal-led faction has been demanding action against former Agriculture Minister Hari Parajuli for his misconduct with women during the National Paddy Day function.

They have been claiming that the Youth and Sports Minister Purushottam Poudel was unnecessarily harassed without reason while no action was taken against Parajuli because he was in Chairman K P Oli’s coterie.

Central member and deputy coordinator of Publicity Department Surya Thapa today registered a letter at the party secretariat demanding immediate central committee meeting to discuss several important issues and make clear the UML’s views on contemporary issues, including that of the constitution.
