UML to ensure peace, statute

KATHMANDU: The Standing Committee meeting of the CPN-UML today decided to tell all political parties and the people that the party was committed to take initiation and give effective leadership to ensure peace and constitution by forging a high-level agreement.

According to a statement issued here today, the party had been continuously trying to "transform violence into peace, manage the conflict in the country and also to bring about socio-economic transformation through peaceful means."

The party is also committed to resolve the political and constitutional hurdles in drafting the new constitution and bringing about lasting peace besides upholding the constitution's supremacy, rule of law, pluralism and open society and safeguarding human rights, the statement added.

"Peace, constitution and national unity are subjects of major importance," stated the release.

The meeting has also requested all to remain active to seek national consensus among the political parties for peace, constitution and national unity.
