UN condemns attack on refugees

Kathmandu, May 6:

The International Organisaton for Migration and the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, today issued a joint statement condemning the attack yesterday evening on a bus carrying Bhutanese refugees heading back to the Khudunabari refugee camp.

Nine masked men attacked a bus with 15 refugees on its way to the Khudunabari camp to drop off the refugees who had been to the IOM office in Damak for third country resettlement processing, UNHCR said in a statement.

IOM driver and two refugees, injured in the attack, are undergoing treatment at the Khudunabari camp health clinic.The UNHCR also called the authorities to bring to book the persons responsible for the attack.

The bus was vandalised with almost all windows smashed, the release added.
