UN envoy concerned over plights of internal refugees

The special envoy of UN general secretary Kofi Annan, Professor Walter Kalin, today expressed concerns over the living condition of the people displaced by the conflict in Nepal.

Interacting with representatives of human rights organisations, upon his arrival here after a visit to Dailekh, Kalin said the internally displaced people have been living in dire conditions. He also met the internally displaced people. Kalin said the UN would try to create an environment for the safe return of the internally displaced people to their homes. Kalin also stressed the need to provide easy access to health and education facilities to the internal refugees. On the first day of his two-day visit to Biratnagar, Kalin met conflict victims and human rights activists. He is scheduled to meet party representatives, local government officials and chiefs of security bodies tomorrow. Kalin has no plans of meeting with any Maoist, according to INSEC.
