Rautahat, March 15

United Democratic Madhesi Front cadres today resorted to vandalising sign boards installed at rural municipality offices as part of their protest against restructuring of local bodies in Rautahat.

Rautahat has 16 local bodies, including three municipalities and 13 rural municipalities as per the recent restructuring of local bodies.

UDMF cadres vandalised sign boards installed at most of the offices.

Cadres of the front vandalised the sign board of the District Coordination Committee Office today. Similarly, after cadres of the agitating front disrupted and set fire to the stage of the Ishnath Rural Municipality inauguration programme int Oraiya, staffers attending the inaugural ceremony fled the scene.

District Coordination Committee Rautahat said regular work was disrupted after the front’s activists vandalised the sign boards of Durgabhagawati, Madhavnarayan, Gadhimai, Gajuramai, Patuwa Bijayapur, Kathariya, Devahai and Maulapur rural municipalities and set them on fire.

Coordination Committee Coordinator Umesh Basnet said it was very hard to carry out work from rural municipalities until the problem was settled at the political level. Basnet complained that it was very challenging for civil servants to carry out their work without political solution to the problem.

Locals of Sakhuawa  Dhamura conducted a chakkajam along Chandrapur road section for four hours saying that the office of Brindaban Rural Municipality was at an inconvenient place.

UDMF Rautahat said it had launched the protest against restructuring of local bodies without constitution amendment.
