Unity must for timely CA election: Nembang

Kathmandu, September 28:

Speaker Subas Nembang today stressed on the need for unity between the political parties to hold the constituent assembly (CA) election on the scheduled date.

“Holding CA polls is our and the country’s commitment so we should be serious on this matter. We will conduct the CA election on time and promulgate new constitution as per the wishes of the people,” he added.

Nembang said this while addressing the opening session of two-day national conference on promoting constructive dialogue on constitutional issues, organised by the Constitutional Lawyers’ Forum (CLAF) here today.

“At present we have been facing trouble while drafting laws, so it is obvious that there will be problems while drafting the Constitution after holding CA polls,” he added. If politics is in the right track we can bring all other things to the right path, he said, adding that politics should be guided by the country’s existing laws.

Bishwokanta Mainali, president of Nepal Bar Association, called on the political parties to act on the basis of their political ideologies than on the basis of populist slogans. “Populist politics will not help political parties to take genuine decisions,” he added. Former president of

NBA, Shambhu Thapa, however, said that the country has failed to settle several issues and there is no possibility of solving the problems.

“It is not easy to settle issues as there are four major ideological differences between the political parties,” Thapa added. He also called on not to compromise on independence of judiciary, free press and rule of law.
