Upendra Yadav retains MJF prez crown

Convention agrees to nominate the central members through consensus

Birgunj, January 20:

The second general convention of the Madheshi Janadhikar Forum unanimously elected Upendra Yadav as party president for one more term. Though party leader Amar Yadav had

announced his candidacy, he did not register the candidacy.

No election was held even for the central members after the closed-door session decided to go for consensus on central members.

Earlier, the election committee had published the election schedule for the election of 30 central members.

One-hundred-and-forty-eight persons had filed their candidacy for the central committee berths. Party leader Bijay Kumar Gachchadar was the one who proposed to go for consensus for central members.

The party chair nominated the central members based on recommendation of the senior leaders of the party, a source said.

Party senior leaders said the decision to select central members through consensus disseminated the message of unity in the party.

The Madheshi Janadhikar Forum, which was formed in 1998, elected Upendra Yadav as president for the first time during its first general convention in Biratnagar

in 2004.

The party, which has been often accused from within the party of not being inclusive, had 11 central members from the Yadav community.

Observers said the election for central members might have been cancelled so as to avoid getting many members from one single community elected to the central committee.

Those nominated to the central executive committee are: Jay Prakash Prasad Gupta (Saptari), Sharat Singh Bhandari (Mahottari), Renu Yadav (Saptari), Ram Sahaya Yadav (Bara), Lal Bau Raut (Parsa), Dr Tilak Rawal (Kathmandu), Asha Chaturbedi (Parsa), Jitendra Narayan Dev (Saptari), Bharatendra Mallik (Jhapa), Ram Lal Sopihar, Khalid Siddiki (Siraha), Bijay Kumar Gupta (Siraha), Chandrika Roy Yadav (Rupandehi), Ratneswor Goit (Dhanusha), Sanjay Kumar Shah (Dhanusha) and Rabindra Thakur (Mahottari).

Similarly, Ganesh Yadav (Rautahat), Jaya Prakash Yadav (Siraha), Rabindra Yadav (Sarlahi), Abdul Jabbar (Rautahat), Rameshor Roy Yadav (Sarlahi), Nasir Siddiki (Kathmandu), Mohammad Istiyak Raien (Banke), Ramjanam Chaudhary (Kathmandu), Arasi Yadav, Upendra Jha (Kathmandu), Rajeswori Jayasawal (Rautahat), Kabuli Paswan, Jipsi Chaudhary (Dhanusha), Ratneshor Kayastha (Kathmadnu) and Sahasaram Yadav were also nominated as central members. Gachchadar had not filed his candidature for the central membership.

He would probably be nominated by the president by using his authority to nominate eight more members, the source said.

The general convention also formed a five-member disciplinary committee comprising of Dr Shivaji Yadav (Mahottari), Sitaram Agrawal (Banke), Mukesh Kumar Singh (Chitwan),

Yogendra Sahani (Parsa) and Ramewhor Shah (Kathmadnu).
