Yadav stresses statute amendment

Rajbiraj, January 4

Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chairperson Upendra Yadav has renewed his call for constitution amendment saying that the recent political developments had justified the longstanding demand of Madhesi forces once again.

Speaking at a party-organized programme to felicitate party candidates who won in the recent provincial and parliamentary elections from the district, Yadav said, “The elections have justified whatever we had rooted for a long time, including the recent political turmoil. It has been proved that we were not wrong to seek an amendment of the statute.”

“No matter how much we clamoured, leaders of the three major parties didn’t give us an ear. Now they are locked in a pretty pass created by the constitution whose confusing and faulty provisions should have been rectified long ago,” said the Madhes-based leader.

“In fact, it’s the constitution, not us, that has caused the delay in government formation, so there is no option but to amend the charter, which is replete with confusion and faults,” he argued, calling for the support of all political parties for statute amendment.
