USAID shifts office

Kathmandu, October 23:

The United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) announced today that it will transfer its regional office from Itahari of Sunsari district to Janakpur of Dhanusha district.

USAID/OTI programming out of the Itahari regional office had been hindered by recent flooding and the shift to Janakpur would enable the programme to continue providing assistance to districts throughout the Terai, according to the Public Affairs Office of the US Embassy. The new regional office in Janakpur will open in early December.

“The breakdown of road transportation across the Saptakoshi area has impeded USAID/OTI’s ability to serve communities to the west of the river, notably in Siraha, Saptari, Sarlahi, Mahottari and Dhanusha. In order to better support these districts, USAID/OTI will be closing its regional office in Itahari and re-opening it in Janakpur,” a press release said.
