USC shuts Nepalgunj customs office
Banke, April 16: University Struggle Committee disrupted regular official work in Nepalgunj Customs Office today demanding the establishment of a university in Nepalgunj. This is the second phase of agitation launched by the USC, which has been launching agitation demanding the establishment of a university since long.
Import and export of goods was obstructed via Nepalgunj point due to the closure of the customs office.
The protesters did not let the employees collect the revenue. Hundreds of lorries and trucks were stranded in the bordering market Rupaidiya since they could not get through the customs point due to the protest. The official work had been halted since 7 am.
Official work of the Chhoti Customs Point near the border was also disrupted today. The agitators hung banners on the premises of both the customs offices. President of the struggle committee, Pashupati Dayal, warned of halting all government official work if the government failed to fulfill their demand as soon as possible.
Ever since the government decided to establish the Mid-Western University in Surkhet, denizens of Nepalgunj have been adamant on their demand of establishing one in Nepalgung.
