KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 2
While writing this story, the Himalayan Times took the data package as the router status went unknown.
When the Himalayan Times tried turning the internet on, it stated, "Your router status is unknown. Your router needs to be online to access this feature."
The unknown status started at 9 p.m. onwards and continued the same until 10:55 pm.
According to reports, the problem of slow internet service was seen among the internet service providers that have been providing services in Nepal. Some of them didn't work, while even when working, it was extremely slow.
Sudhir Parajuli, chair of the Internet Service Provider Association of Nepal, reported that various internet service providers across the country have been experiencing problems with their internet since 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Since 8 p.m. today, there have been internet problems across the country. This is because Airtel, an Indian internet provider, is down, according to Sudhir Parajuli.
Nepal's internet is primarily supported by terrestrial links to India, with Bharti Airtel and Tata Communications serving as major bandwidth providers. These links are critical for Nepal's access to the global internet.
According to the Hindu report, Airtel caters to around 80% of Nepalese ISPs' bandwidth needs, with the rest largely served by Tata Communications Ltd, and two small connections from China. The report has quoted Parajuli.
Prior to this, On May 3, 2024, home broadband customers all over Nepal experienced significant downtime for around five hours because internet service providers (ISPs) were unable to pay bandwidth fees to the company that controls much of the country's access to the global internet.
ISPAN has issued a press statement saying that this delay in payments could lead to an internet shutdown in Nepal.
Meanwhile, netizens took to social media to express their frustration, while some of them also mocked the internet service providers and the government too.
The popular social media page Routine of Nepal Banda (RONB) wrote that WorldLink, Vianet, NTC and Ncell, among others, Internet Service Providers, have slowed down, while no details of the problem have been discovered.
Another social media page, NEB Result and News, asked, "Net ma Ma problem kata kata cha ?" Which areas are experiencing slowed-down internet?
In another post, it mentioned, " No Net ! No Tension !! "
Meanwhile, Manoj Dahal took to Facebook and questioned, Is the internet working properly in your area?
" It is disturbed in Kathmandu and many parts of Nepal right now. #internetdown #internetdisturbed," reads his post.
Another social media user, Saurabh Karki, also wrote on Facebook mocking the proposed bill on social media in the Upper House of the Parliament, "The Internet vanished amid the market heated by the #troll_bill."
Another user, Govinda Raj Nepal, wrote, "Stayed away from gadgets for some time today, the internet is down," reads his post with hashtags including #internet #down #nepal #data.
