Vandalism leads to hospital’s closure

Siraha, December 14:

The Siraha district hospital has closed all its services, except emergency services, from today after the bereaved family of a boy vandalised the hospital. Saying that the hospital’s carelessness took Rohit Kumar Yadav’s life, kin of Yadav vandalised the hospital.

Nepal Health Personnel Union, Siraha and District Public Health office at a meeting today decided to shut all the hospitals in the district till December 16.

All the patients in the Siraha hospital were asked to go back home today citing insecurity.

Health workers also demanded compensation and action against the assailants.

According to the Siraha district police office, Yadav, 7, of Siraha Municipality-2 was brought to the emergency ward of the hospital last evening after he was trampled by a buffalo.

As the boy died shortly after he was admitted, the bereaved family members began to vandalise the emergency ward and the residence of physicians.

Head at the hospital Dr Raj Kumar Chaudhary said that an electrical oxygen cylinder worth Rs 1,50,000 and other equipment, including electrical appliances, and furniture were damaged in the incident.
