SIRAHA: People in Siraha district have been facing difficulties after VDC secretaries closed the VDC offices in the rural areas arguing that there was no security for them to carry out their regular duties.

Kul Bahadur Basnet, secretary for Asanpur and Jamdaha VDCs has been displaced to the district headquarters following threats from several armed outfits.

Regular work of dozens of other VDCs, including Betauna, Mahanour, Ayodhyanagar, Lalpur, Muksar and Durgapur have been halted after the office that was being shared by these VDCs was closed.

When inquired about the reason for leaving the VDC, Banset said, “How can I work in the place where I receive threats over the telephone for donation almost daily.”
