Veep election process begins
Kathmandu, October 29
After the election of the President, the Legislature Parliament is all set to begin the process for electing the new Vice-President on Friday.
According to Sudarshan Kuinkel, deputy spokesperson for the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat, political parties can file candidacies for the post from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. As per the election schedule, the Secretariat will publish the name of the candidates at 1:30 pm. The voting for the post will be held from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday. The result of the election would also be announced at 5:00 pm the same day.
The High Level Political Mechanism discussed the ruling coalition’s common candidate for the post but failed to take a decision today. The ruling coalition would take a decision tomorrow, said CPN-United Chair Shah. He said most of the leaders were for fielding a Tharu or Madhesi candidate for the post. Unified CPN-M has already announced candidacy of standing committee member Nanda Bahadur Pun, while Nepali Congress has decided to field Amiya Kumar Yadav for the post.
